Borrowing to repay another loan
How a new Hong Kong loan used only to pay an old one can increase debt, how that differs from a planned consolidation, and why old payments cannot stop early.
A new loan does not automatically shrink the debt
Borrowing to repay borrowing means using a new debt to pay an old instalment, a minimum payment, or an amount already overdue. If the new total is higher, or the old debt is not actually cleared, the debt has grown. A monthly payment that feels looser may only be a longer term.
That is different from a written arrangement that uses a new loan to clear named old debts in one step. Even that arrangement has to be compared on total cost, and it is not guaranteed. China Prestige Capital is not a bank balance-transfer plan. We accept personal-loan, owner-loan, and second-mortgage enquiries.
The dangerous period is when both loans exist
Until the new loan is drawn and the old debt is cleared, both payments exist. People use the expected new amount to pay the old debt, or spend it, and then the new loan is declined or smaller. The gap leaves the old arrears and the new promise together.
Do not stop any old payment, and do not promise a friend or a broker that you will “definitely repay next week”, before the writing and the drawdown are complete. Approval can change.
Charging a home to fill unsecured debt raises the risk
Card balances and personal loans may not have charged the home. A second mortgage or owner loan taken to pay them puts the home behind consumer or cash-flow debt. The monthly figure may fall. The consequence of default can change from recovery of a debt to a possible sale.
That step needs every owner to understand it. If it is not understood, do not use a parent’s or a spouse’s flat to pay your cards. If a personal loan is still unaffordable, reduce spending and stop borrowing. Do not switch to a charge.
Add every payment, and do not use the best month
Add the new payment, any old payment not yet cancelled, the mortgage, rent, and living costs. If there is no buffer, this round of borrowing to repay should not happen. Test self-employed income on a quiet month. Test rent on what remains after the lease ends.
APR must not exceed 48%, and the ceiling is not your new rate. Do not use an unconfirmed low monthly rate to persuade yourself the old debt is easily replaced. The HK$20,000 example is not a debt-clearing quote.
When the cycle has stopped, a broker only adds a fee
After the cash flow fails, someone may sell a guaranteed approval and take a fee first. The old debt remains. The useful direction is to stop adding debt, contact the actual creditors under the existing contracts, and, where there is security, understand the sale risk and take your own legal advice.
Hotline 3622 2934 will not ask for a fee before hearing the situation again, and it will not describe borrowing-to-repay as approved on the phone. You have to repay your loans. Don’t pay any intermediaries.
