Consolidating balances into one repayment
What people in Hong Kong mean by moving card or loan balances, or a mortgage, into one facility, and why one payment is not automatically cheaper.
The phrase covers more than one product
Sometimes it means moving credit-card or finance-company balances into one credit, so there is a single payment. Sometimes an owner means a remortgage: moving the mortgage balance to another institution, sometimes with cash out. Both are new borrowing. Security, rate, and documents are not the same. Say whether you mean cards, personal loans, or the mortgage.
China Prestige Capital is not a bank, does not issue cards, and does not offer a bank balance-transfer plan. We can take a personal-loan, owner-loan, or second-mortgage enquiry. If the purpose includes repaying debt you already have, staff need a rough list of who is owed and how much, to see whether the new payment is really lighter. That is not a promise of approval, and not a promise that total interest falls.
One payment can still cost more
The new monthly figure can look smaller because the term is longer, or because you compared instalments and ignored the total. APR, fees, and the remaining term have to be read together. Replacing expensive debt with another interest-bearing loan can move the pressure, not remove it.
APR must not exceed 48%. The ceiling is not your quote. The HK$20,000 example, monthly flat rate 0.052%, 12 months, no handling fee, monthly interest HK$10.4, total HK$20,124.8, APR 1.15%, does not apply to a sum used to clear cards or a mortgage. Your figures are in writing.
Unsecured consolidation and secured consolidation
If the flat will not be charged, the enquiry is a personal loan. The review looks at income and every current instalment, including the ones you hope to clear. Until the new loan has actually cleared the old debt, do not assume the old payments vanish. While both exist, the burden adds up.
If the flat will be used, the enquiry is an unencumbered cash-out, a second mortgage, or an owner loan, and the address is required. The home becomes security. Charging the place you live in, in order to combine card balances, is a housing risk, not only a monthly comparison. Ask your own solicitor to explain it before you sign.
Do not hand the transfer to a stranger
Someone may offer to consolidate for you, take a fee, and then ask for online-banking passwords or one-time codes. That is not the ordinary process. Our form must not contain an identity-card number, a banking password, or a one-time code. You decide whether to repay, and you pay only an account named in writing.
If you have already been told to transfer to a personal account, stop, keep the records, and call 3622 2934 to ask whether the payment has anything to do with this firm. Most do not.
List every balance first
Write the creditor, principal, minimum payment, rate, and any early-repayment amount. Without that list, you cannot tell whether a new arrangement fits. Keep it for yourself and for a verified assessment. Do not send it first to an adviser you cannot identify.
If the list shows you still could not pay after combining the debts, a smaller amount, a talk with the existing creditors, or no enquiry is the responsible step. A decline is not the failure. A consolidation you cannot pay is the new problem.
