“Identity card only” loan claims
Hong Kong advertisements that say an identity card is enough to borrow. Identity and repayment ability are different, and the card should not be uploaded to a stranger.
An identity card only says who you are
An identity card checks identity. It does not replace income, existing debt, the term, or, where there is security, the property. “Identity card only” usually hides the repayment question, or there is no intention to lend, only to collect the document and a fee.
Our online form says not to enter the identity-card number. Contact details and the outline of the loan start the enquiry. Later identity checks should happen after you know the request is from this firm, through a channel you choose, not by uploading the card to an unknown link.
Images of the card can be reused
Once the front, the back, and a photo of you holding the card are in the hands of someone you cannot verify, they can be used for accounts, loans, or fraud. You may think it is one enquiry. The images may be used again. Do not send them into an advertisement chat for speed.
If you already sent them, stop sending codes, keep the chat, and consider asking the relevant bodies about a misused identity document. Call 3622 2934 so we can say whether that chat is ours.
A selfie and a one-time code are the next step of the fraud
After the card arrives, the caller often says a bank or government account must be verified and asks you to read a one-time password. That is not a loan procedure. Do not read it out, forward it, or install remote-control software they name.
Our hotline will not ask for a verification code to “activate a limit”. End any call that does.
A secured enquiry cannot run on an identity card alone
A second mortgage or owner loan needs a real property address, and then title, valuation, and any existing mortgage. A photograph of an identity card plus a promise of cash-out contradicts those steps. Neither an unencumbered flat nor a mortgaged flat can be assessed with no address.
A personal loan does not charge a flat, and it still needs repayment ability. A card and no explanation of repayment can leave the enquiry where it is. That is not obstruction.
A proper identity check happens inside the assessment
At the right stage of a real application, it is reasonable for a lender to check that you are the person in the contract. The timing, the documents, and the channel should be explainable, and you can confirm them on 3622 2934. The check is still not an approval. Approval is the writing.
Do not answer a refusal to upload your card into an advertisement by looking for someone who will “lend on the card alone”. That willingness is the risk. You have to repay your loans. Don’t pay any intermediaries.
